Patrick S. Preller, has over 27 years of litigation experience in federal and state courts throughout Maryland and states as far away as Texas. Mr. Preller is recognized as one of the most able trial lawyers in Maryland and has an extraordinary record of success.
In 1998, Mr. Preller attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as an associate editor on the Law Review, graduated with Honors and was inducted into Phi Delta Phi (an international legal honor society and a professional fraternity) while achieving his Juris Doctorate degree.
Following graduation, Mr. Preller clerked for the Honorable Maurice W. Baldwin on the Circuit Court of Maryland for Harford County. He then accepted an appointment as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City, where he prosecuted thousands of felony cases (including homicides, narcotics, robberies, burglaries. fraud, etc.) along with misdemeanor and juvenile cases. Mr. Preller also worked as an associate attorney for the prestigious law firm of Rosen and Esterson.
His principal areas of practice include complex civil (personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability and employment discrimination) as well as criminal litigation and appeals.
His civil litigation experience is diversified and involves cases dealing with medical malpractice, construction accidents, fraud, car accidents, truck accidents, insurance bad faith, products liability, insurance coverage, toxic exposures, employment discrimination, nursing home abuse, motorcycle accidents, wrongful death, train accidents, dog bites, drunk driving accidents, defective drugs/medical devices, child molestation, burn injuries and birth injuries. As a prosecutor and in private practice, Mr. Preller has tried hundreds of criminal and civil cases.
His criminal defense experience involves cases classified as “capital” or “Class A” felonies, carrying the severest penalties—life in prison or the death penalty, first degree murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary, sexual assault and distribution of deadly controlled substances. Since entering private practice in 2004, he has never lost a criminal jury trial.
His clients include high profile cases covered locally, nationally and internationally by ABC News, NBC News, WUSA Washington, The Daily Mail US and UK Editions, the Washington Post, the Atlantic Black Star News, the Maryland Daily Record, WBAL and other news outlets.
Since 2012, Mr. Preller has also taught Constitutional Law, Fourth Amendment and Criminal Procedure as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore.
